Semi-permanent Makeup

Semi-permanent make-up is the art of using cosmetic tattooing to apply the effect of long-lasting eyeliner, brow shaper or lip colour by placing pigment directly under the upper layers of your skin.

  1. Improved shape & definition of eyebrows
  2. Enhances your natural eyeline
  3. 3D techniques can mimic hair growth
  4. No need to apply makeup everyday!
  5. Look great 24/7 without effort
  6. Achieve fuller, well-defined lips

Semi-permanent make up (or micropigmentation) is a complexion treatment to enhance eye, brows, and lips - adding definition to the face.

The technique involves injecting pigment through a fine vibrating needle into the higher superficial layers of the skin, which has been pre-treated with a local anaesthetic cream to numb the area.

The pigment only penetrates 0.2 mm deep into the skin and thus, unlike ordinary tattoos, it fades with time. The pigment is made of a natural iron oxide, which is hypo-allergic, and no patch test is required.

How long will permanent make up last?

Permanent make up can last for many years but how long it does in reality depends on several factors, including the skin type, your annual sun exposure and life style.

For these reasons at Shahla’s Aesthetics, a colour refresher treatment is recommended every 12 to 18 months to maintain perfect results.

Areas available for treatment

  • Eyebrows
  • Eye liner and eyelash enhancement
  • Lips
  • Beauty spot

Eyebrow shaping

Eyebrow shaping can make a huge difference to the face. Through using the correct shape and style, a great brow can help you to frame your face through adding expression, warmth, and depth. "Never underestimate the power an of an eyebrow".

Eye liner

With semi-permanent eye liner, you can look your very best the moment you wake up.

Perhaps you hate applying your eyeliner daily, or your eyesight is no longer good enough to apply the liner as precisely as you would like. A semi-permanent layer can help to achieve good looking eyes 24/7.

Lip Liner

As we age the natural pigment and definition to the lips are lost. It is possible to add the definition to the Vermillion border by applying semi-permanent pigments, which will leave you with enhanced looking lips all year round.

Beauty spot

Beauty spots can be added by inserting a small amount of pigment into the skin, to get that sought-after supermodel look.

General info & "Dos and Don’ts"

For semi-permanent eye liner make up

  • Do not arrange an appointment before going on vacation (you may not be able to avoid wind, sun, snow or contaminated water).
  • Clients on prescription should check with their doctor or practitioner regarding drug interactions. This is particularly important in the case of blood thinners or any heart medication.
  • Do not put in contact lenses or wear any make-up before the procedure.
  • Do not dye or perm lashes for 3 days prior to the procedure.
  • Do not use eye lash growth serum for two weeks pre and post procedure.
  • In case of any eye surgery, consult with your physician about how long you should wait before having semi-permanent eye liner applied.

For semi-permanent lip liner make up

  • If you are prone to getting cold sores, you will need an antiviral prescription. The recommendation is to take the anti-viral medication 3 days before the procedure.

For semi-permanent eyebrow make up

  • Immediately after the brow procedure, the colour will appear to be too dark and thick; however, within 2-3 weeks the colour will fade and they will become more natural looking. You must be aware of this before the procedure.
  • If you donate blood, it is Red Cross's policy that you must wait one year after any tattooing to give blood again.
  • Avoid eyebrow exposure to the UV rays post treatment and ensure you always wear sun cream as the sun rays will lighten the brows prematurely.

The treatment competes with another service we offer, microblading, so it makes sense to understand the pros and cons alongside any tradeoffs:

Pros of semi-permanent brow makeup

  • It's the solution for a longer lasting effect
  • Ideal for patchy eyebrows where segments may be missing
  • You already have the desired shape but it needs perfecting
  • Less expensive, and faster treatment time

Cons of semi-permanent brow makeup

  • Brows can become thicker with time
  • Won't look as defined as Microblading
  • More discomfort than the manual Microblading
  • The ink can pick up a blu-ish undertone, depending on care levels

Pros of Microblading

  • It's the solution if definition is needed
  • They tend to look more natural
  • They are performed by hand
  • Discomfort is less than with a machine
  • Will look beautiful once they fade

Cons of Microblading

  • They only tend to last 6 to 18 months
  • Refresher appointments are required
  • Pricier than a machine, due to the manual work
