Dermal fillers, also known as injectable implants, soft tissue fillers or wrinkle fillers are medical device implants approved for use in helping to create a smoother or fuller appearance in the face.

Dermal fillers are small injections of gel, typically made of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule that attracts and binds water in the skin.

The FDA has approved some dermal fillers for the restoration of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

How do they work?

Fillers basically restore lost volume and plump up areas with the appearance of deep lines and smooth them over. They also help with the contours of the face.

Why is this needed?

As we get old our bodies stop making Collagen and Elastin.

Without these two proteins, the body begins to display signs of ageing, like hollow eyes sunken cheeks, smoker's lines around lips. Boy no longer has the means of keeping strong skin supple.

How long do fillers last?

Dermal fillers can last anything between 6-18 months.

Treatment results will appear for each person, touch up treatment may be added to maintain the desired look.

Different types of filler available:

We offer many different types of filler, as years of experience has taught which ones are most effective in varying locations on the face and body. Here is a small rundown on the ones we currently use and their background.

 Hyaluronic Acid based fillers

These are naturally found in connective tissues, tendons, and cartilage, and are the most common fillers used. Due to its ability to hold water, is very effective in plumping skin.

If the term sus familiar, it is because the same substance is often injected into the aching joint of people with arthritis to ease the pain to provide extra cautioning.

Brand names: Juvéderm, Restylane, Perlane, Belotero, Hylaform, Perfectha.

Calcium Hydroxyapatite based fillers

The compound is naturally found as a mineral in human bones but is biosynthetically produced, which means that no animal products are used. This lowers the risk of an allergic reaction and thus no skin testing is required. This dermal filler was first used in dentistry and reconstructive surgery and has long safety record.

Brand name: Radiesse

Polylactic Acid based

Polylactic acid is a synthetic dermal filler, which is injected into the face causing an increase in the natural production of collagen. This filler is non-toxic and biodegradable.

This substance is unlike other more conventional fillers because the results are not immediate; instead, because it stimulates your body’s own collagen production, results appear gradually over a period of a few months.

Brand name:  Sculptra

Ellanse

Ellanse is different to other dermal fillers. Ellanse is a non-Hyaluronic acid filler. Ellanse offers a unique 2-in-1 action, it sculps and restores lost volume associated with ageing. Its principal component is Polycaprolactone (PLC) microspheres -a bio-absorbable soft medical polymer. The longevity of an Ellanse filler varies from 1 year to 4 years.
