Microblading is a form of eyebrow-only tattoo artistry where pigment is inserted into the very upper layers of the skin, with a manual tool (instead of an electric machine like semi-permanent makeup). Hair strokes are drawn on the skin mimicking the natural hair lines in one's brow, it creates the desired fullness and shape of a perfect eyebrow.
It's an ideal treatment for those who need thickness, definition, and/or newly shaped brows.
The procedure is carried out with a sharp and unique blade tool which inserts the colour in the second upper layer of your skin. Once complete, the outcome will last 6-18 months depending on how well they are looked after (largely sun care). We will arrange a touch up appointment to freshen them up as they start to fade.
The treatment competes with another service we offer, semi permanent makeup, so it makes sense to understand the pros and cons alongside any tradeoffs:
Pros of Microblading
- It's the solution if definition is needed
- They tend to look more natural
- They are performed by hand
- Discomfort is less than with a machine
- Will look beautiful once they fade
Cons of Microblading
- They only tend to last 6 to 18 months
- Refresher appointments are required
- Pricier than a machine, due to the manual work
- Only useful for eyebrows
Pros of semi-permanent brow makeup
- It's the solution for a longer lasting effect
- Ideal for patchy eyebrows where segments may be missing
- You already have the desired shape but it needs perfecting
- Less expensive, and faster treatment time
- Also can act as semi-permanent eye and lip liner
Cons of semi-permanent brow makeup
- Brows can become thicker with time
- Won't look as defined as Microblading
- More discomfort than the manual Microblading
- The ink can pick up a blu-ish undertone, depending on care levels
